There will just be irrelevant commands or answers that do something different than what the question is asking for. They don't make up PowerShell commands or invent false answers. Usually all of the available choices for an answer are valid commands or methods of doing something. I would say the biggest thing with the exams is knowing the content well enough that you know what Microsoft is asking for. Each of the three tests has an official exam overview (listed below) which details the exam's objectives. There's a lot of info out there on the Microsoft exams. My goal was to achieve my MCSA: Server 2016 in 12 weeks, which I did! Push yourself and study hard and you can probably do it quicker than you think. I learned a lot studying for these tests that I didn't already know. You study method may look different than mine, and that's okay! And it may take you longer, and that's okay too. We're all different people with different strengths and weaknesses.

If you're not as comfortable as a test taker, you may have to study for a little longer. If you have less than me, you may have to factor in some extra labbing. I'm just sharing my background so you can judge my study methods/route based on your experience. I would say I'm a comfortable test taker and have been able to coast in highschool/college because I retain information well.

I would say of my 6 years experience, probably 4 of those I used Windows Server regularly in a small/medium enterprise environment, depending on what you define as small/medium. Starting off in Desktop Support, I then moved to network technician, junior sysadmin, and now a regular sysadmin.

I'm a sysadmin with about 6 years of professional IT experience. Post 3: 70-742 - Identity with Windows Server 2016 Post 2: 70-741 - Networking with Windows Server 2016 Post 1: 70-740 - Windows Server 2016 Installation, Configuration, and Maintenance Everything I talk about here will be described in greater detail in each of these posts. Each post will be linked below, and then I will summarize my study habits which have really been the same for every test. I've already written detailed write ups on each test over at the /r/MCSA subreddit. 4 weeks for the first exam (70-740), 5 weeks for the second (70-741), and 3 weeks for the third (70-742). It took me a total of twelve weeks to get my MCSA. I'm planning on doing that fourth test next, but my study method already worked for me for the first three tests so I thought I would share it now. And you only have one more to go after that to achieve your MCSE in Cloud Platform & Infrastructure. The Server 2016 cert path is accurate, however.Īs you can see, the Server 2016 MCSA requires 3 exams. Note: 70-696 has been replayed by 70-703 which is in beta right now. Here's another flowchart posted by /u/sh1ttydefaults Here's a link to a flow chart that does a really great job illustrating the cert paths that they offer. The Microsoft certification paths can be a little confusing for some. If it's something you want to pursue, great! This write up will help you. There have been some great posts on this sub regarding the validity and value of certs, so I'm going to end my commentary on this side of things here. From there you can discuss your technical qualifications. Certifications will get you through HR so that you can talk to a technical interviewer who (hopefully) knows what they're talking about. If you google "MCSA Salary" and think you're going to make that much without anything but the MCSA on your resume, you're going to be disappointed. If you're fresh out of college they're not guaranteed to get you a job. I'll also say, certifications are no substitute for experience. It's all been very interesting to learn about. Or stuff that you just don't do that often in the real world.

A lot of the stuff Microsoft is testing you on is stuff that you set and forget and never learn the details of. There are some that would say a certification is just a piece of paper which doesn't demonstrate anything, but I actually learned a LOT during the study process for these exams. I was certainly tempted to try and find the official test questions and cheat, but I set the goal for myself of passing without doing so, and I did it. I also wanted to prove that it can be done quickly without the use of dumps. I decided to get my MCSA in Server 2016 just a little while ago and I just passed my final test on Saturday! I want to try and help as many people succeed in pursuing their certification as I can if it's something that you want to try and accomplish. So here's a debrief/write up of my experience studying for the Microsoft Server 2016 exams. I chime in with comments here or there, but I've been wanting to do something to really contribute. Hey guys! I frequent this sub pretty often.
